The first and, so far, only album from the band Three Days Grace (TDG) is an original album that many of us have been waiting for. After dozens of Green Day, Nickelback, and Blink 182 imposters, TDG is a welcome break. This is a 12 track album that pulls you right in with "Burn", a unique song that starts the CD off right. Following that you'll find several more songs that fit right in with the dark and edgy mood of the album, including feature songs "I Hate Everything About You", "Just Like You" and "Home".
The lyrics pull away from the over used path of sex, violence, and money going deeper to topics you don't hear in many other popular songs. The song "Let You Down" positively shone with the carefully placed guitar sequences and well thought out lyrics. The feeling that these are songs by people from the "wrong side of the tracks" gives it a slightly more relatable feel. After all how well can you relate to Britney Spears' "Perogative"? A rich and famous woman singing about how bad her life can be doesn't make you feel as comforted as when the guys of TDG do. Their songs tell about life as we know it, which is what most of us want to hear.
But even with these great lyrics, there were definite similarities in several songs. They started to follow a pattern which I assume is TDG's "safe zone". A couple of songs broke out of that safe zone (such as "Just Like You" and "Overated"), but hopefully with more experience their next album will be slightly more daring.
Vocals through out the album were strong and dark. The rough voice of Pete Murray accompanied by Adam Gontier pulls all the tracks together and turns them from good to brilliant.
A truly genius album that is definitely worth every penny. Looking forward to another album, or even better album, from Three Days Grace in the future.
