The Energies Release Their Debut Single 'beyond Th

The Energies release their debut single 'Beyond The End' on March 27. Nostalgic yet timeless, like Elvis Costello fronting The Killers, or Brian Wilson covering divorce-period Abba, this nugget of dreamy pop might at first appear mild-mannered, well-groomed perhaps, but give it a moment and the song's deep-set hooks will start to scratch away at your soul.

The Energies is songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and telescope-fancier Nick Nicola. Nick leads a monastic existence in a log cabin, writing songs and immersing himself in 1970's sci-fi, old philosophy books, analogue synths, old equipment, and nature. His guilty pleasure is Five Star, although if you ask him he'd probably say he's influenced by Phil Spector, Pink Floyd, Morricone, and The Beach Boys.

The stunning promo was shot by a film making collective called Family in Stockton Beach on Anna Bay, New South Wales, Australia. Its meaning is left open-ended, as if it is down to the viewer to decipher what it's all about. Perhaps the character is an old man yearning for his youth, or maybe he's actually a young man who has a premonition of his older self. Or is the man already dead and living/existing Beyond The End?

Who knows? But it's worth hitching a ride all the same: www.theenergies.com
