Raquel Aurilia, Finding My Way

Raquel Aurilia's "Finding My Way" (http://www.raquelaurilia.com) experiments with so many genres that you'd think it's a greatest-hits compilation summarizing a multi-decade career. "One Step Closer," for example, attacks with an alternative-rock bite, light years away from the gentle pop of "Feels Like," our entry port into this smoothly polished and highly attractive disc.

The core of it all is Aurilia's voice, which can soar in a lovely manner - as on the chorus of "Feels Like" - or comfort the ears with a motherly touch as in "The Need."

The classic rock covers, including Gary Wright's FM staple "Dream Weaver," struck me as oddly placed at first, but they fit within Aurilia's wide-ranging tastes.
