These Bedsit Ballads Really Get Inside Your Head.
These bedsit ballads really get inside your head. Forlorn lovelost Indie Pop dirges are often crying out in search of the self, drowning in a sea of others. Not here. Much more than just self-absorbed moaners, say, in the style of some Pulp, The Smiths or Belle and Sebastian, here there is a sense of identity, and comprehension of societal structure and the role that we choose, or choose not to play in it. Indeed, the Peggies have something real to say that extends beyond the end of their duvet. Life, love and loathing. A refreshing change.
Insightful lyrics with touches of mirth and whimsy ("If I could pass the salt I would be a millionaire"), hipswaying melodies and a shot of energy from alternative guitar tunings, plus interesting time signatures, all go to make an excellent debut from this new song-writing talent.
