Jill Jensen Seems Like Dreams

Straight-laced (read as unadventurous) singing and playing by future wife and husband team Jill Jensen and Jack Grassel, does the duo no favours if they were looking for an opportunity to shine, however, in a cocktail lounge-type setting this is pretty high class stuff, with Jensen crooning (or whatever the female equivalent is) through some comfortable standards such as "It Had To Be You" and "Witchcraft", and the odd flurry of notes falling from Grassel's fretboard.

A warm background is conjoured with vibes, soft-shoe shuffle drumming and a feminine touch on bass making this a suitable showcase for Jensen's "specific" vocal range, rather embarrassingly exposed when she tries to bend long sweeping notes on the final track (which also reveals some poor production with an abrupt ending), but if you really want to hear how this sort of material can be sung then go look up Jeanne Lee's work with Ran Blake and later with Mal Waldon.
