The Kills, No Wow: This Offering Pours Rocket
The Kills, No Wow:
This offering pours rocket fuel onto the fiery debate that ensued after the provocative duet VV and Hotel seductively stole into the limelight with 2003's debut album; 'Keep On Your Mean side'. For some it was a blues rock breath of fresh air, for others it was falseness produced by two try-hards. The more main stream approach of previous single; 'The Good Ones' has done nothing to resolve the issue, critics were still divided.
The seductively brusk Patti Smith like vocals of VV return, as she tells tales of life on the seedy side; borne out in the 'I Hate The Way You Love' and 'I Hate The Way You Love Part 2', complemented by grinding guitars and a haunting drum machine beat. The dark horse track is 'Love Is A Deserter', as scything cynicism is delivered with aplomb and is the album's equivalent to 'F The People'.
