As Soon As You Hear 'lonely Nation' Opening Switch

As soon as you hear 'Lonely Nation' opening Switchfoot's 5th full length album 'Nothing is Sound', you know you're in for a treat. Followed by 'Stars' which is an even better song and probably the best on the album on a close par with 'The Shadow proves the Sunshine' and 'Golden'. But the treat continues, 'We are One Tonight' and 'Daisy' are also great songs, each within their own distinctive rights.

The great thing with Switchfoot is that they sound big and heavy but in no way touch upon being rated as a nu-metal or hard rock band. Multi layered guitars with clear - yet - raw vocals, beautiful melodies and catchy choruses define Switchfoot as a mix of Indie, Rock and perhaps sometimes, in their quieter songs, even as Soul.

Within just over a month, 'Nothing Is Sound' was certified gold and sales didn't stop after that. 'Nothing is Sound' debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and went on an extensive tour throughout the US. The featured on all the main late night shows including David Letterman and Jay Leno.

Lyrically the songs match the well crafted music. Switchfoot's Jon Foreman has been quoted saying he defines their music as music for thinking people. That this is not just a music snob can be seen from their great live shows, extremely interactive website/web-community and their constant effort to include fans into the music, defining it as an conversation with the band on one side and the fans being the other side. The availability of free bootlegs on the internet, publicly endorsed by the band is only another example.

Back to the album, these songs are one by one testimonies of excellent songwriting capabilities mixed with an energetic 5 piece band. Strong vocals singing about life's deeper moments and ever present rock guitars in a variety of different capacities make this album an absolute must have. No wonder the US ran away with this album.
