This Is Nick Cave At His Dirty, Angry, Foul-mouthe
This is Nick Cave at his dirty, angry, foul-mouthed, sarcastic best! It's a dirty, rocky blues album made by Nick Cave and three of his Bad Seeds cohorts (Warren Ellis, Martyn P. Casey and Jim Sclavunos) on which Cave reverts to his shouty, angry Birthday Party roots to rant about sex (and lack thereof), frustration and women. Not only that, but this album shows a distinctly dark and wicked sense of humour as Cave complains about his inability to entice his woman into bed, and the emasculation of men in modern society by poking fun at himself.
The album was conceived by the four Grindermen jamming together, writing very differently from other Nick Cave records, and you can hear the embryonic quality of the songwriting. It's loud and angry but also sparse and minimalist.
Basically this is a great album which shows the other non-ballad side to Nick Cave's songwriting and is great for when you're feeling angry and in the mood for some pure rock n roll.
