Blood Is The Editors' Third Single, Preceding The
Blood is the Editors' third single, preceding the release of their first album in a few days and it doesn't really deviate very far from the dark, broody jangly-indie-goth-rock feel of the first two.
Built around the biting chorus of "Blood runs through your veins, that's where our similarity ends" the song's narrator berates a broken promise amidst images of red neon, broken streetlights and dirty city streets.
The Editors tread a path filled with young upstarts taking their influences from the likes of Joy Division, The Chameleons, Echo & the Bunnymen and other '80's stalwarts, but they do it with a great deal of flare and a lot more intelligence than most of their compatriots. Sure, there's hints of the best of 80's indie, but you can also hear elements of swirling shoegazer guitars in the slower b-sides and some of the more interesting elements of Doves and Elbow.
Overall, this is a great song, backed up with great b-sides (and who doesn't love the 7" format!) and I am really looking forward to the album!
