Synthesist Meg Bowles Unveils Her New Cd The Shimmering Land
Meg Bowles -- who has been working in the fields of ambient and space music for two decades now -- has a new recording, THE SHIMMERING LAND, which shows her at the top of her game.
This is carefully-crafted, all-synthesizer, ambient-space journeys, very gently melodic. The music is not melodic like pop or rock music, but more like pastoral classical music where the chord changes and composition structures are much more subtle.
The six tunes are fairly long (from seven to fourteen-and-a-half minutes in length). There is the gentle rise-and-fall of the “Undulant Sea” and the peaceful stroll through the subconscious with “Nightwalk Across the Isle of Dream.”
This is synthesizer music that sounds like synthesizers (not simulating any other instruments) and that is almost refreshing in today’s world where most musicians use the synth to electronically-recreate acoustic and electric instrumentation.
There is no doubt that Meg Bowles is a master synth player in the creation of ambient music. Of course, like all music, ambient is not for everyone, and may be an acquired taste. But if you like ambient or want to lick a tasty cone of it, this would be a good CD to check out. You can find Bowles and her music all over the Internet by using a search engine.
