Wired Magazine Which Has Been Published In The Us
Wired magazine which has been published in the US since 1993 has a long history of chronicling cutting edge of technology and its impact on our everyday lives, both now and in the future, as well as well as profiling the people and companies who are changing the future.
Part business magazine, part lifestyle magazine it is genuinely interesting and the broad scope of the stories they publish always make it an a surprise.
The UK edition of Wired magazine, which is published by Conde Nast, was launched earlier in 2009. It's the second time it has been launched in the UK. Obviously the first time round wasn't so successful.
Hopefully the second time will be more so because it's a great magazine. The magazine is split into front of book and back of book (in the industry lingo!). The front of book is dedicated to short articles about new technologies, trends, people, events as well as commentary by their roster on contributing editors some of whom are great, some not so much.
The back of book is given over to longer articles covering the scientific, the technological, major trends and influential thinkers and doers; both in the UK and internationally.
Some recent stories included covering piracy in Africa, the search for dark matter, and how to business plan your life. There are always future-gazing stories about stuff that will never see the light of day but make for interesting sci-fi style reading.
The articles are always accompanied by strong graphics and lisitcles so you can dip in and out.
The only major complaint I have is that I have been buying the US version of the magazine for years and the UK version is using quite a number of the same articles in each issue so I am wasting money buying both. They should either do the same as Vanity Fair and have the same magazine just with different ads in each country or have them totally different in each month.
