Centro Is A Great Bar For A Few Drinks At The Star

Centro is a great bar for a few drinks at the start or end of the evening or for a chilled out night where you want bar more than pub. It's located on Tib Street in the Northern Quarter near Matt & Phreds and Cord and caters to a slightly older crowd of people. It's laid back, there's no dress code and tends to be pretty friendly - people ask before putting their empties down on your table, say please and thank you and excuse me. The clientele is often people who've moved into the Northern Quarter but it also attracts a slightly trendier crowd who prefer new places before they become known and who avoid hideous chain bars like the plague. The beer is imported, the wine is well chosen and the music is from a DJ who seems to play what he likes - usually Northern Soul, and disco stuff that I'm not familiar with but suits the chilled out atmosphere. Plus, it's generally quiet enough so you can talk to you friends without screaming or without having to speak into one person's ear at a time. Always a bonus. If you get in early enough it's free, but from 8 or 9pm on the weekends you will be charged a small fee to get in ( a couple of pounds?).
