Mama Mia - A Very Nice Moment

Last week I went for the very first time to see a musical. I chose Mama Mia, because it's one of the most famous ones. And I wasn't desappointed at all. Actually I had a really great time with my friends seeing this dynamic show and singing ABBA's enternaining songs. I hardly noticed any bad points, even though nothing can be perfect. I will definetly recommand anyone to go and see this show.

Poor

Saw this production Sat 11th Aug 2012. Really disappointed, especially by the singing! It was at best average, in fact some of the lead characters were very VERY out of tue and it felt like a school play rather than a West End show. It actually reminded me of lots of drunk women at a wedding. The girl who plays Sophie had an especially weak voice. Overall disappointing. Wicked, Ghost, Les Mis ina different league.

Disappointed . . .could Have Been So Amazing!

As a 30th birthday present from my husband we went to the West End yesterday to see the much hyped Mamma Mia. I LOVE the film and had heard such good reviews that we were both expecting great things. Expecting to leave the Theatre singing and on a high we actually left feeling a little flat at the 'ok' show.

We were expecting a much bigger supporting cast - bigger songs & dance routines, more 'Greek Local' characters. The actors were good - well the 6 older ones were at any rate - giving natural, eperienced performances. The younger characters, especially the dreadful Sophie (a hyperactive 35- looking year old playing a 20 year old character) and her two friends gave performances that seemed as though they were straight out of stage school with no theatrical experience what so ever. They were too melodramatic and ott compared to the rest of the cast, or faded in to the background, and failed to provide convincing characters.

The highlight was the end of the show when all the characters came on to stage to sing and dance - the audience was on its feet! Why didn't they do this throughout the show?? Why half heartedly sing & perform the songs when they could have been fantastic.

Maybe pre-movie the stage show was brilliant but I think the producer now needs to look at the success of the film and step up the stage version several notches. It is not a film but anyone who loves the movie will go in and compare the two and possibly leave a little disappointed like we did.

A Must See!

Mamma Mia! has to be the BEST West End Musical I've ever seen. The show was very enjoyable, it was very hard to not sing or start dancing out of your seat to the catchy songs which were sang top quality by the brilliant cast; towards the end of the show everyone was out of their seats dancing and singing! Great atmosphere to the entire theatre. The cast were extremely talented in singing, dancing and of course acting; the way how the scene's changed with the set moving fascinated me- I was wondering how this was going to be done after seeing the movie. As much as I love the movie, the West End stage version of it is so much more fun! The theatre its self was a very nice place, the staff being very helpful, as they were when we rang up and booked our tickets. Advisable to book tickets in advance though, it near enough seems to get a full house whenever we have passed the theatre before. If you are planning to see a West End Musical and don't know which one to see, this is for sure the one!

Mamma Mia Was The First Musical I Ve Been To And I

Mamma Mia was the first musical I ve been to and I originally liked Abba songs a lot so i was a bit scared to be disappointed about that but actually the actors were all very good and they could sing very well. The atmosphere was very nice, and u leave the place with a very nice feeling. The main actress and her mum were very good, both acting and singing.

Definitely worth going, for all ages.

We Saw Mama Mia Just Before Christmas On The 21st

we saw Mama Mia just before Christmas on the 21st Dec. 2010 (matinee performance). Having seen several other shows in the West End, all of which were excellent, we were very disappointed with this production. There were 4 understudies taking the major roles, the acting and singing was mediocre at best, and the overall impression was that of an amateur production. It was certainly not of the standard of any of the other West End shows we have seen. Maybe we were just unlucky?!

I Was Very Disapointed. Already The Movie Was So B

I was very disapointed. Already the movie was so bad. Spoiled the memories that I had of ABBA in the 70s when I was a child.

Today Was The Second Time I've Been To Mamma Mia I

Today was the second time I've been to Mamma Mia in London and it was the second time within a month. Before that, I was thinking that on stage it could not be as half as good as the movie. However I noted after my first visit, that it can be even better on stage. After that, I bought the CD with the original cast and I have to say that I understand some people when saying that the previous cast (before summer 2010) was not that good. Meanwhile ther have been some changes in the cast and the performance today was again overwhelming. The main attraction of the cast for me is Jessie May as Sophie. Besides the fact that she looks georgious, she has the voice of an angel. When she sings, it really touches me deep inside. She'll have a great future. Linzi Hateley as Donna is good, but the first time I've seen it, the part of Donna was sung by Sara Poyzer and I personally think that Sara gives much more life to the character, also with her voice. She is more the rock mother. Excellent performances of Catherine Russell as Rosie and especially Harriet Thorpe as Tanya. She is great. For those who have not been fans of Abba, it might be difficult to understand the hype but for the fans it's a big show when all the audience sings with the cast.

I Went To Mamma Mia As Part Of A 60th Birthday Cel

I went to Mamma Mia as part of a 60th birthday celebration for my mother. It would be fair to say, it wouldn't be the kind of thing Id chose to go along to normally.

I found the acting and the singing average at best (particularly some of the singing - quite weak).

I found the plot fairly daft - the actors would be discussing something and then break out into song with a very weak link between the dialogue/plot and the song they were singing - it was almost comical in parts. Basically it seemed to me that they really tried to shoehorn in the Abba songs, but most just didnt go with the plot, so it became fairly farsical.

I guess if you liked the film you may well like the musical (I only managed to watch 20 mins of the film before I felt compelled to turn it off - so I guess going to the musical was always going to be challenging!)

I'd only recommend it if you've seen the film and loved it. The ticket prices were fairly shocking (£60 each) for the quality of entertainment and Id definitely say you could see other things at the theatre which are infinitely better and considerably cheaper
