Womad - Delicate Flower That I Am, This Was My Fir

Womad - Delicate flower that I am, this was my first experience of a music festival and indeed camping! Us WOMAD goers got very lucky this year with fantastic weather which surely made the experience infintely more enjoyable than it may have been had the weather adhered to British summertime stereotypes. Once you have accepted that babywipes offer a perfectly suitable alternative to cold dribbling showers with a twenty minute queue and discovered that the Rivermead Leisure centre provides a haven of clean and flushing toilets thus eliminating the desire to swallow a pre-emptive (no pun intended) packet of Immodium, then WOMAD is the place to be for a delicious weekend of world class music not to mention great food. Although a pretty London-centric crowd, the atmosphere among the punters was relaxed and free with people of all ages enjoying some fantastic acts. A big find and now favourite of mine had to be Zap Mama who had a wonderful stage presence not to mention incredible talent. The scale of WOMAD means that you can generally squeeze your way to a good view of the bands and a lot of the stages provide an intimate setting for terrific music which I'm still dancing to...Sarah-Jane
