Jim Johnston Live

I caught Jim Johnston recently at Streatham's White Lion pub, a charitable venue in aid of Music for Children. The door was by donation. The pub itself is cheap and cheerful, with most furniture and equipment donated. It had a pleasantly student union feel, but with good quality sound and comfy sofas!

The band were doing a mini-tour in support of their new album, Voyage Of Oblivion.

The guys clearly have many years of experience under their belts and it was evident. The sounds varied from blues to indie, via good solid rock and roll. The percussion was solid and supported beautifully by the keyboards, masterfully played by a young guy who clearly has an old soul. A cute, quirky flautist rounded out the sound very effectively.

My favorourite song was Misunderstood, a bluesy, almost creepy song; a very strong single, I thought.

The group had a strong presence on stage, with good chemistry.

It was a good night out, all round. I'll definitely catch them again, and would recommend seeing them.
