Not As Bad As You'd Think

Finally decided to bite the bullet and watch Battle: LA. The impression I had gotten from several friends who had seen it was it was a bit rubbish and the camera moved around far too much for one friend who said it left him feeling a bit sick.

So to be fair I wasn't really expecting much. Battle: Los Angeles is pretty much your standard human versus alien invasion. It has some interesting ideas but doesn't really flesh them out like say District 9 but the aliens and the way they all join together are pretty cool. Aaron Eckhart does his job as the about to retire marine making things right and proving himself but Michelle Rodriguez yet again shows she has little acting prowess. Not as cheesy as Independant Day but no way as good as District 9, Battle: LA is the perfect mindless action flick for an otherwise empty evening. Hooah.

First Of All, This Film Is About Aliens And Guns.

First of all, this film is about aliens and guns. Think District 9, Independence Day, but with no plot. Aliens land in multiple places around the world, invading our along our coasts. They're here to steal our water you see. Earth, comprising of 70% water, makes us a prime target. The story picks up in Los Angeles. Aliens have landed, and are starting to fight their way inland, kill off all humans. The film comes from the viewpoint of a marine squadron who have a mission to reach a police station and rescue civilians. What ensues is plenty of explosions and big guns, and lots of Hollywood schmaltz about about how great the US marines are. There were lots of very cliched moments, several that just made you laugh out loud because they were so cheesy.

The one thing I didn't like was the style of camera work - very shaky, in the style of Cloverfield. I guess they were trying to make it look more real, but I think it would've worked better with steady shots. All in all it was pretty good, just don't go there expecting too much and you'll enjoy it.

If I Had To Use One Word To Describe This Film It

If I had to use one word to describe this film it would be enjoyable.

The film is set in present day, as the title say's, in Los Angeles.

Aliens arrive in the form of Astriods, striking all along the coast of major citys, The invasion begins, and a bloody and brutal battle begins for mankinds survival.

the main plot is scripted around a platoon of marines, being led by a straight out of the acadamy luitenant, and a very soon to be retired staff sargent. being sent into the battle hit city of LA to rescue some civilians from the local Police station.

Following along the tried and tested genre of scripts it works in many places.

But if I was to pick one bad point about this film is the shakey camara work, trying to give you that being there feel took a while to get used to.

allround this is a decent sci fi alien flick and will defently enjoy again on blu ray.
