The Hills Have Eyes Is One Of The Most Shocking, B
The Hills Have Eyes is one of the most shocking, brutal and scary horror films of recent years - from the first minute to the time that the credits role this film is non stop. It does not shy away from the violence and terror at any point and in parts is very uncomfortable viewing.
The general plot - a family on root to California takes a detour to see the desert, while traveling through their tyres are popped by a stinger trap in the road. Completely isolated in the middle of the desert they have to find a way to safety but it soon turns out they are not alone and that no member of the family is safe from the people who inhabit this place.
The Hills Have Eyes aims to be shocking and is - there is a twenty minute scene set in a Caravan in the darkness - it is chilling and long - whereas some films would dedicate a few moments to this scene the Hills Have Eyes focus' on it - I will not sugar coat this for you - these people are evil - what goes on in the caravan is wrong and for some people could be genuinely upsetting.
This scene does accomplish what it sets out to do though - no matter what your feelings on gore and horror after sitting through that scene you want revenge - you are rooting for the family lost in the desert and quite frankly, you want the freaks dead.
The graphics and effects are top notch through out and you cant help being pulled into the story - this is in my opinion the scariest film to come out of Hollywood in the past 15 years and if you are a fan of Horror or just want a scare you cannot afford to miss this film.
I have to agree with Jarrad that this is a scary, violent film, but certainly not the most gory or frightening I have ever seen. It was no different from Wrong Turn which was just as gory in places, though The Hills Have Eyes, goes a little too long into certain scenes where it didn't really need to, but I have seen more frightening films on the big screen.
It was gory, and yes you do want revenge on the whole lot of them by the end of it, but the ending was rather disappointing and no different from any other film out there. They could have done so much more with the film and really made it what it was supposed to be, scary, gory and frightening all in one..
The fact that this film showed absolutely every detail, and left nothing to the imagination, let it down somewhat, therefore loosing its scaryness but had they left a little bit as to you asking did that really happen or not, would have made it much more interesting and more realistic.
Sunbathing in the desert when your car/caravan are completely trashed, is just not realistic - who sits around waiting for someone to come to them? Sorry bit of a let down, but could have been good. Shame!
