Splice

***OVERVIEW**** Two pioneering scientists [Clive/Elsa] work for a genetics company using their skills to make their employers years ahead of their competitors. They use hybrids of animals and use invitro technology to speed up the growth rates of their experiments. Their goal, to immediately create new cures for humans and animals alike. They've just created a creature that can be harvested for a genetic catalyst for animal livestock health. Things start to go a bit wrong when Elsa wishes to create a human / animal DNA splice cross over. Calling his bluff that he is not as ethical as he pouts, the two create a new creature against all the lawful ethics and morals they pretend to possess. The creature is both curious, very intelligent and has predatory instincts. In next to no time the creature grows bigger and then transforms into something akin to a fawn and human female. She cannot speak but she learns very quickly and uses scrabble letters to communicate at times very complex terms. They nick-name the creature Dren. Clive's mentality changes after his brother discovers their act. He tries to kill Dren in water, but they discover she's amphibious. Clive and Elsa get nervous as their sponsors wish to pursue the catalyst for previous experiments and move into the laboratory. Elsa has a farm and they keep her there.

Dren starts to get restless and also quite sexual. She develops almost hypnotic powers over Clive and can sense his thoughts. Dren's appetite for meat as well as killing is on the slow boil. She becomes a lot more powerful, a lot more wilful but Clive and Elsa are obviously worried that she'll escape.

After Elsa discovers Clive's sexual act, Elsa goes crazy and starts to experiment on Dren. She cuts off a bit of her tail that has a spiked talon and gives it to Clive as a way to get the pharma company off their backs. The pharma company does tests and finds out it's a panacea but highly illegal. No worries, they want to abuse the system.

We then have a big show down with Dren and her creators. This time there's another sexual violation, that's almost akin to Evil Dead's TREE violation!

***OVERALL*** Great CGI but there's parts of the movie that just seem rushed. The acting is quite good but the plot line has kinda been done before in lots of other B and C grade movies not only just Frankenstein. Dren's mind reading could have been explored better and some of the support acting is at times quite weak. Overall its quite well structured for a hollywood movie. It's not a unique story but well directed. Recommended watching.
