This Film Has Received A Lot Of Bad Criticism Whic

This film has received a lot of bad criticism which I believe is unjustified. If you're a big fan of Lynch, then you won't go wrong with this movie.

The outline of the movie is that a partnership suffers the loss of a son. The female protagonist is really hardly hit by grief. Her partner [Defoe] is a psycho therapist. He believes her medication is far too high and ought to work out the fear and grief as a joint mission! The female opens up that her fear comes from a place called Eden where she studied a thesis on witchcraft. The pair make their way to the countryside where the trouble begins!

This movie works on 3 distinct layers. The first is the banal... kid dies, psycho babble and psychosis. The next is more mental, what happens with release both sexual and through frustration. The final one is biblical. What if adam and eve, god and the devil or an angel and eve went back to the garden to confront where they went wrong? What would happen?

There's a lot of imagery for all these aspects. I'd pay close attention to the trees [of life and knowledge maybe], the burning of feet and the tree which has been destroyed. Additionally I'd pay attention to the opening and closing scenes and the argument Defoe uses with his partner about her thesis and the things she ought to have learnt.

All in all, if you like Lynch with his metaphor plus shock horror which is beautifully scripted as well as directed you cannot go wrong with this movie! If there's only only regret... I wish I saw it at the movies!
