The Golden Compass

Very beautiful pictures in the movie. It has been very well made.

This book is really good. It's not a fantasy book like the Chronicles of Narnia, I think it's darker than Narnia. It's brilliant and wonderful. In the ending, you lose your breath.

I didn'y like The Golden Compass film, as I found it to have a boring long weird story.

Cameo performances, weak script and rushed storyline - you feel no attachment to any of the characters. Only good performance in The Golden Compass was from the little girl. Story was rushed and the dialogue lacked lustre.

The Golden Compass had fantastic animation, though I thought there was not enough explanation, it was too confusing. It was clear from the outset of the film that, unless you've read the books, you were going to be confused throughout this film.I HADN'T AND I WAS. I told my 14yr old son that he had the book on his bookshelf, but he said he hadn't read it as it was too complicated (so maybe its a symptom!!).There is nowhere near enough explanation of how the "worlds" co-exist with one another and what the "baddies" are trying to do.The animation is fantastic and is totally believable, especially the animals,.The film in my opinion ends very disappointingly, not on a knife edge, but just where they can start the next one. The film just finishes and it came as a shockOverall I was disappointed, and it wouldn't make me want to go and read the book. I also agree with another reviewer who said the names where too complicated. Where on earth do you come up with Serephina Peckeler. My 9 year old was bored.

A must see film for the kids, Can't wait for the 2nd film.

This had all the makings of a good picture, but the story ending was a letdown. It should have been like the lion, witch and wardrobe, but better, but it just wasn't better. A bit beyond youngish children. Shame!

Over all worth seeing. But does not evoke any serious attachement to any of the characters, you can nether really hate them or love them, including Lyra who only stands out with her courage. Neither can you fall in love with their world because it is just moving too fast.

The Golden Compass has a great storyline... wonderful graphics and an enchanting tale.. Though 2 hours long, the time flew by though i did get a little frustrated towards the end at how long the movie was taking. Worth the watch!

The graphics on The Golden Compass were stunning. It captures Oxford as a cross between medieval and strange future. The Ice bears were a great hit with the children. On the whole it is quite faithful to the book. Some people may find it a bit slow and there may be a bit of carping if you read the book. It's a good film (now where can I buy an ice bear for the children's Christmas).
