The Bridge of San Luis Rey - On July 20th 1714 the largest bridge in Peru collapses because one of the ropes breaks. Five people fall into the ravine. The priest Juniper (Gabriel Byrne - The Usual Suspects) witnesses the tragic accident.
One question haunts him: Why did God choose these five people to die in vain, and in such a horrible way? Juniper tries to answer these questions by digging into the past of the five victims.
By his quest he comes into conflict with the archbishop (Robert DeNiro - The deer hunter), but Juniper continues his investigation, even when his own life is in danger.
The film is based upon the novel by Thornton Wilder. It has an impressive cast: Robert DeNiro, Harvey Keitel, Gabriel Byrne, Kathy Bates (impressive acting, Just like she did in 'Misery'), Geraldine Chaplin, John Lynch and Samuel le Bihan.
