Despite The Fact That It Was Long, It's Very Histo
Despite the fact that it was long, it's very historical, very dramatic in parts and a wonderful Civil war film. In fact, the best Civil War film. All the characters were accurate, as well as the battles and just everything about it. I can't think of a more accurate movie. If you like accurate movies about war, you'll love this. Good action, good dialogue, good acting, great story. If you're not a typical air-head who wants to sit and watch blood and gore for 2 hours with no story, then you'll love this. It's really good. It was long... about the only potential bad point I can think about it. The intermission was a little aggravating though. In a few places the editing was not so great, but it's definitely not a reason to not get this movie. Just try and rent it first, see if you like it. PS: Don't disapprove of it just because God is mentioned a few times. (for all you Christian hating, history changers out there ;) ). Loved it.

Staring Jeff Daniels, Stephen Lang and Robert Duval. This movie is about the first steps of the civil war in 1863 in the Southern United States. Filmed in the actual states that this conflict happened in.
This movie while the trailer looked good and awesome it compiled the best scenes in this movie. When you go see this movie you are expecting to see a film like "The Patriot" which starred Mel Gibson. Wrong! Don't expect that at all in fact erase that movie from your head before seeing this movie. It will help!
Gods and Generals is the WORST movie that I have ever seen. It was long around 4 hrs, had a 20 min intermission in the middle where you sit in the dark twiddling your thumbs. And frankly it has bad acting and bad script. See the bad points.

Overall I give this movie 2 Stars out of Ten. I would NOT recommend this movie unless you have a book report or some school assignment. This was the biggest waste of time I have ever seen. Would be good as a mini series but not as a Theatre film.

Sorry but that is not why I did not like it at all. I did not like it because it was looooooooooooooooong and boring. It was 4 hours long and just when you think it was over 20 mins later it comes back on. I do know much about the civil war and they did do a good job on props. Stonewall Jackson in this movie looked like the real one but that does not make a movie good. Even historical movies can have a good plot.
Obviously I was not the only one either that found this movie boring. The theaters kept this movie from expensive theater to cheap theater for about 1 month. That is a VERY short life span. This would have been much better as a mini series then a feature film. Once again WASTE of time unless you either like boring movies or have some kind of report due because you are in grade school.
I think the problem with Gods and Generals for this reviewer was that there weren't enough exploding helicopters and car chases. In addition, there was no gratuitous sex. Stonewall Jackson and his wife were shown in bed together, and they actually had a conversation. Imagine that.
I saw Gods and Generals twice and enjoyed it immensely. But then, I'm interested very much in the American Civil War and live in a part of the United States where many of the key battles were fought.
