Intelligent, Sharp Comedy

I went to see Russell Brand's 'Messiah Complex' the other night at the Hammersmith Apollo, and I wasn't disappointed. Russell was everything he is on TV and more; intelligent, profound, at times ridiculous; but equally one of the most naturally funny comedians on the circuit right now.

What's nice about watching Russell live is that it is not JUST a comedy show. He raises really thought provoking debate about religion, politics and spirituality too. You quickly realise how meaningful these topics are to him, and its a pleasure to watch someone so passionate about what they do.

I was close to giving all 5 stars, but settled on 4 as at times he would go off on a rather crude tangent. Perhaps he was looking to cater for all audiences, but I didn't find these parts particularly funny.

Bushy Haired Brand Is, Undeniably, A Popular Man O

Bushy haired Brand is, undeniably, a popular man on television at the moment. This DVD is proof that his place on our screens is well-deserved.

Littered with horrificly rude jokes, oddly victorian language and unusual dress sense, this performance has it all. Brand is very funny, and though some may dislike his choice of humour, those who find it deliciously naughty to giggle over jokes about x-rated parts of the Queen will most definately enjoy the DVD.

This show comes thoroughly recommended, and a good addition to any comedy collection. But please don't show it to anyone under the age of 15...
