I Was Nervous Sitting Down To Watch Thor. I've Rea
I was nervous sitting down to watch Thor. I've really enjoyed the rebooting of the Marvel franchise (with one exception, Iron Man 2, weak story and characters). Thor is a tricky one to pull off. Telling a story that is split between two worlds, Earth and Asgard, could have ended up messy and cringe worthy but I think Kenneth Branagh helming pulls it off.
I'd advise you to watch in 2D as 3D was added post production, yet to see a film that manages to create convincing 3D after filming has wrapped.
The film puts a new spin on how he learns his humility and it does differ from the comics but it still tells the same story; Odin decides his son is not yet worthy of the throne so casts him out to Earth. A strong cast that has been well selected for their acting ability, Chris Hemsworth is a virtual unknown but is well suited to Thor and Tom Hiddleston is great as Loki. There are a few moments where you really have to suspend your disbelief but that is to be expected when you're dealing with comic book adaptations. Watch out for the usual cameo by Stan Lee.
Yet again at the end I was sat with several other geeks waiting for the extra bit at the end of the film and we were rewarded. Cannot wait for The Avengers next year...going to be awesome.
This Film Confused Me From The Start. I Actually
This film confused me from the start. I actually thought I was going to watch a Viking epic, not some rehashed comic book film conversion. It seemed to mash Viking religion with comic book fantasy and a pretty standard non-plot. In lots of ways, it reminded me of the latest Tron, just without the awesome soundtrack and visuals. I also thought the 3-d was pretty non-existent - it clearly wasn't shot in 3-d, and was just one of those films converted as an afterthought. In fact, the best bit of the 3-d was the closing credits, where there was a pretty impressive flight through space. I probably wouldn't recommend it unfortunately. Natalie Portman did look hot though.
No. I don't read comics
You thought it was going to be a film about Vikings? Never seen the Thor comics or The Avengers? Didn't watch it in 3D as it's far too gimacky and was added as an afterthought by the studio (not Branagh's fault).
