Nightwatch Is A Strange Russian Horror/action-adve

Nightwatch is a strange Russian horror/action-adventure film which falls somewhere in between Underworld and X-Men in terms of concept. Since the dawn of time there have always been "Others" who are different, psychics, werewolves, vampires, telepaths, etc. These Others are locked in eternal combat between good and evil and reached a truce when they realised they were evenly matched. So now the Nightwatch are the "light" keeping an eye on the baddies to make certain they don't kill or do bad, and the Daywatch are the "dark" keeping an eye on the goodies so they maintain the truce. A prophesy tells of the coming of one so strong that he will throw the balance and he has to choose whether he is light or dark.

The story then picks up with Anton whose pregnant wife has left and shortly afterwards, while in the middle of an act of revenge, he discovers he is an Other. He joins the Nightwatch and is on the trail of a vampire who has designs on a young boy, but he has a vision over a woman that the final battle is near and when he accidentally kills a member of the Daywatch while trying to save the lad all sorts of chaos break free.

It's a fast paced film that is sometimes hard to follow, and not only because of the subtitles, but it's worth the effort. The plot sometimes feels more like the pilot to a TV series than a full, self-contained film and the ending is practically a cliff-hanger as they all but set up a second film in the final 5 minutes of the film.

If you like your superhero films or your vampire films or a good supernatural action-adventure then rent this cause it was very clever and highly entertaining.
