Having Been Impressed With Mr. Brosnans Portrayal
Having been impressed with Mr. Brosnans portrayal of 007, I was hesitant as to what level Daniel Craig could take a very familiar character. But fear not, coupled with a film that takes Bond back to the beginning, Craig is able to add a freshness that helps to unveil our superspy's beginings and lay down the harsh realities that help build him into the emotionally guarded hero we know him as today. This Bond film also tries to break away from the familiar Bond formula, which is both brave and…
Casino Royal Represents A "reboot" Of The James Bo
Casino Royal represents a "reboot" of the James Bond film franchise. It had started to go a bit wayward with diamond-studded villains, DNA re-written by some nutcase, villains who can't feel pain and one who "creates" news headlines so he can get an exclusive story. The film starts at the beginning, where a seemingly emotionally retarded MI6 field agent called James Bond earns his "00" licence following a successful assassination op where 2 targets are dispatched cleanly and without repercussions. He then finds himself pulled into the "war on terror" by being assigned to go against a terrorism financier at the "Casino Royale" and turning him into a double-agent.I'm a big fan of the films, so I admit I wasn't sure about Daniel Craig. He was good in films like "The Glass House" but I couldn't imagine him as 007.Thankfully I was wrong. Craig's interpretation of Bond is probably the closest to Ian Fleming's book-based 007. Withdrawn emotionally, not the womaniser of the films, less reliant on gadgets, and living by his own skill and wits. The film itself is pretty faithful to the original novel, just with some details updated and a few extra action scenes. The torture scene (which is not over-graphic, but makes viewers wince) is more believable than the "meeting of minds" that most other films favour. And at least after that, 007 doesn't just slacken his tie and keep going like Moore or Brosnan would have done. Also, the "gun-barrel" sequence at the beginning of each film is given an "explanation", as is the "Bond, James Bond" quote that so many have badly emulated with a faux-Edinburgh accent. As a die-hard Bond fan, I can say that other Bond fans are probably going to be impressed by this film. Just be aware that this marks a change in the atmosphere of the film series, albeit a positive one.
This Film Was Brilliant And I Think Daniel Craig R
This film was brilliant and I think Daniel Craig really has the right to say "the name's Bond, James Bond!"
Casino Royale Is Highly Recommended - Daniel Craig
Casino Royale is highly recommended - Daniel Craig is superb as James Bond. This is one Bond movie where the stunts are believable, the plot is tight and acting is great.
I Have To Admit I Was Never A Huge Bond Fan I Watc
I have to admit I was never a huge Bond fan I watched them on TV and have always thought no one could ever supass Connery. I however have been proved wrong as Daniel Craig plays a more gritty, emotionless Bond.
The movie goes from a dark beginning of Bond getting his 00 license to a very intense chase scene using one of the best free runners in the world. I would rate this scene as one of the best chase scenes I have seen or can remember. The action then moves to more exotic locations and then onto the Casino for an intense cat and mouse game of cards.
Bond is played as a more vulnerable character and can be cut, get broken bones but this adds to the film and makes it feel a more complete Bond movie and how I have always seen Bond.
If you are looking for a more gritty, down and dirty type of Bond then you will love this movie and I highly recommend you see it.
Casino Royale Takes Itself Way Too Seriously. Not
Casino Royale takes itself way too seriously. Not many chances for a laugh. This is a Bond that suffers. He gets tortured, betrayed, makes tabloid headlines... That may be why women like the film -apart from the 6.5s scene where you get to see Daniel Craig's pectorals... The plot wants to be very serious too: we're talking terrorism money, saving all those lives! Very serious stuff... In a word, this film is ridiculous, even the baddy isn't in control of anything, he even gets wacked... Bond is dead I'm afraid, please invent something new.
Wow! This Bond Film Has Real Integrity. Daniel Cra
Wow! This Bond film has real integrity. Daniel Craig is spot on as Bond, and gets a believable character across on screen, even - dare I say it - overtaking Connery, the ultimate Bond. He is certainly as good as, and fits the role perfectly. Where Craig has the advantage is in an updated, well-written script, without the schoolboy humour, and without the naughty schoolboy antics with Q, who does not appear at all in this film. Nor does he have to contend with ridiculous gadgets, like exploding pens and wristwatches, yes I know they are really used by the secret service, but they strike audiences as pretty far-fetched.
Instead, the screenplay relies on Craig's physicality. He's stacked, powerful and fast. The opening chase of a bomb-maker has them both (and brilliant stunt men obviously) running, leaping, hurling themselves off and through things, throwing punches and getting unbelievably bashed about. The chase through and up, on a building site, involving leaping on and off cranes at stomach-lurching heights, is almost unbearable as they both smash repeatedly into the unforgiving metal of the cranes, etc. This is a really tough opening, and the tension rarely lets up.
It's a great relief when there is a quiet moment of dialogue so the audience can get its breath back, and to have the story presented, but it's not for long. Craig next has a fuel tanker to deal with and there is plenty of great stunt driving here, a sick-making fight with the driver, and enough screeching and skidding to make any lad happy.
Casting is excellent with Vesper Lind as the girl he falls for. The dialogue is excellent between the two, and a believable relationship is set up. The pre-sex scene in the hospital room looks ludicrously uncomfortable and unexpectedly rough, as they crash into things, and fall hard onto the floor. The actors in this film must be black and blue, but you don't expect that from the moment that's supposed to be tender. The tender moment is the shower scene well before this, and that's moving.
I want to see this film again, soon, it's compulsive. I have only one query - Vesper has the bank account number, Bond has the password. The money gets wired to the bank. It doesn't arrive. There's no explanation for the way the double cross with the money happens, timing wise. If it got put into the wrong account in the first place, that would account for it, but in the chronology of the story, I can't see it. Pay attention on this point. I can't fault the film otherwise, and I am a dedicated Bond fantasist. I really liked the way the Bond motifs were regarded but played down. He orders a different drink but, when offered the usual 'shaken not stirred' line Craig says 'do I look as if I give a damn', very funny. And his line 'the name's Bond. James Bond' is saved for the final clip. Classy.
Superb Film, Better Than My Expectations. Daniel C
Superb film, better than my expectations. Daniel Craig added his own unique style as Bond. More of an arrogant charmer than the usual suave sophisticate. Plenty of action to keep you glued right to the end which I must admit was unexpected. Only one thing lacking was we didn't have the usual show of gadgetry and the film concentrated more of the character which in my opinion wasn't a bad thing :-)
