I Think This Movie Is Good For It's Purpose. It's
I think this movie is good for it's purpose. It's not meant to be some life-changing, or hysterically funny, or terrifying suspense movie. It's meant to give you some scares, some laughs, and entertainment. And it does indeed entertain.
While this is definitely not for fans of all ages, the exception being younger children, most of everyone else will enjoy this fast-paced, twisted romp into the netherworld of magical, mystical beasties!
"Gremlins" ranks as one of the classic horror films of the 1980s, dark enough to satisfy the horror people and light enough to be funny and almost a family film. Followed by an equally great sequel, "Gremlins" has secured itself as a memorable and must-see film.

Gremlins Is A Movie About A Boy Called Billy Who R
Gremlins is a movie about a boy called Billy who receives a strange creature as a pet from his father. The creature is a Mogwai, and is sold against the owner of the shops wishes, (Mr Wing) by his grandson, who sells the Mogwai to Billys father for $200.
The grandson then warns Billys father the three golden rules you must always abide by in keeping the Mogwai. Rule one: No direct sunlight on the Mogwai. Rule two: No water to touch the Mogwai, and the most important rule of all, Rule three: never feed the Mogwai after midnight.
Billys father names the Mogwai "Gizmo" and brings him home for his son as a christmas present. Billy is fascinated by him, he is very intelligent and even learns to hum a tune. One of Billys friends accidently spills water on Gizmo causing him to convulse and instantly multiply. Billy now has five Mogwai's and they are all much more aggresive than Gizmo and they trick Billy into feeding them after midnight, with disasterous consequences.
Gremlins was Directed by Joe Dante and released in 1984. It was a commercial success and has a P.G certificate.
Maybe i am i being a little too critical here but going back to rule three; Never feed the Mogwai after midnight. I would like to know when it is then ok to resume the feeding of the Mogwai, at what time after midnight is safe to give him a bite to eat.?
For me, midnight marks both the start and the end of each day, therefore two midnights are associated with each day, conventions are needed to distinguish between them. The solution is simple "00:00" refers to the start and "24:00" to the end of a given date. In other words today at "24:00" is the same point in time as tomorrow at "00:00.
The film makes no reference to suitable times to resume feeding, and what happens if you took the Mogwai to a different time zone? Worse still what happens if you take the Mogwai to the United Kingdom where we put our clocks forward and back an hour in summer and in winter? This suituation would really cause problems for other owners of Mogwai's and the film misses them out. They even had the opportunity to clear this matter up in Gremlins 2 the new batch but failed to once again.
Saying that, i would not let this point distract you from an otherwise great film.
What did you guys make of Gremlins2(the New Batch), I went to the pictures with a lad called Ivan(aka Hitler, Ravi, Flozza) and Chrissy Hughes(aka Piano Teeth) and none of us really enjoyed this movie if the truth be told.
I saw this film the other day, just before Christmas - my only comment is that regardless of how old this film is, all the gremlins looked fake and Gizmo had lost his cuteness by looking like a 'Firby'. CGI as used in Terminator 2 or the Lawnmower Man could improve this film a lot.
I appreciate that twenty years have elapsed since Mr Peltzer purchased the aforementioned Gremlin, but $200.00 for such a rare and exotic creature seems a ludicrously low price to me. I fully understand that Mr Wing and his grandson were experiencing severe financial difficulties at the time of purchase, and they were probably in fear of losing their shop and livelihood. They did however turn down Mr Peltzer's initial derisory offer, but I believe they could have squeezed at least another 100 - 150 bucks out of him, as he seemed very interested in the creature. I blame the grandson. Mr Wing had a beauty "poker face" on him. When I first watched Gremlins I never believed he would part with the little critter, as he was adamant that the "Mogwai" was not for sale. His grandson was a bit hasty in finalising the deal, and I bet he got absolutely knacked. Despite their financial difficulties, I think I am right in saying that Mr Wing did offer a full refund when he reclaimed ownership of Giz. Having watched the film on a number of occasions, I can't help but think the Peltzer's were a little foolish in not visiting the vets with regards to a quick check-up regarding Gizmo's health. He was living in very restrictive and cramped conditions in a dirty basement of a souvenir shop. After all, Billy did choose to bring the creature into his bed, and he already had a large mammal as a pet, so Gizmo should have been checked for flea's at the very least.
Great review!
