Overall a good experience and would return but needs to improve on following...

Walked into restaurant, no-one there to greet you. Waitress ignored us. Had to go to bar to get attention.

Restaurant was freezing, turn the heating up!

Once meal ordered very difficult to get further attention of staff. Lack of follow up on additional requirements.

This is a great place but please be more responsive to your customers. I nearly lost my voice trying to get your attention!

Family Friendly And Fab Food

I visit this pub on a regular basis and after an amazing Jubilee Celebrations Weekend with Fantastic atmosphere and food, I felt I wanted to let The Star know how much fun myself and my family had. I was shocked to see the previous comment and this is obviously one poor comment since the new people have taken over...

The children's food is great and the food I have had since visiting the Pub has always been Excellent.

Granted sometimes there is a little wait for the food but this I'm told is due to the fact they are serving home-made and freshly prepared food daily, which shows in their quality and presentation.

I have a dietary issue and they always go above and beyond to try and cater for me...

My Husband can't speak more highly about the Real Ales they serve and shows why they have be recently named CAMRA's Country Pub of the Year.

Will definately be revisiting soon...

A Well-run Pub That Is Going Places

My wife and I go walking in the area regularly, and since it re-opened we always look forward to a midday meal at The Star. This large pub is set in beautiful countryside and offers terrific views. You can enjoy these from the garden or from the spacious conservatory restaurant, or you can retreat to one of the snug areas near the bar on a cold day. You can count on a warm welcome, and be confident that the real ales will be top-notch, as the new landlord cares passionately about his beers, and runs a very hands-on business. The food service is a little slow, but that's because the food is being cooked for you, as you will find when you discover the chips are the real thing. How many pubs give you genuine freshly-cooked chips these days? This is not a gastropub, but I think most people will enjoy their meal, and the prices are very reasonable. It is very clean and well maintained, and is altogether a pleasant and relaxing experience. Currently, it is fairly quiet in the early part of the week, but gets much busier as the weekend approaches. Given the landlord's energy and determination to constantly improve every aspect of what the pub offers, I have no doubt that The Star will be CAMRA's Local Pub of the Year before too long. I live in Bristol, but the locals I have spoken to would agree with me, I think!

An Old Inn With New Owners And Seriously Upgraded Food

Since this inn is located in the most beautiful location, we have been waiting anxiously for it to reopen after a long period of closure. Sitting in that lovely garden looking out over glorius Monmouthshire views - we were missing that.

It reopened a few months ago, and is being run by John and Julie.

It would be impossible to overstate the level of service. This young couple are intent on pleasing their customers, making them welcome, and ensuring many repeat visits.

There are several menus to suit all tastes, and a fabulous specials board with several different fish and meat dishes. If you just want a burger - it will a great burger with lovely chips. If you want something more special, try the sea bass, or slow roast pork belly - delicious.

There are 2 reasons this inn did not get a 5 for food. One is their over-keeness on copious amounts of sauce drowning some of the dishes. Sauce was delicious, but just too much. So now I ask for sauce

excellent food/service and real ale (they had 4 on when we visited and i had to try them all).

family friendly as they have a largish garden with kids playthings and a conservatory.

needs supporting by locals/tourists.

Lovely Lunchtime Light Meal

Beautiful sunny day,sat in the garden of The Star awaiting lunch....and waited, and waited!!!and we were the first to order!! However the waitress was lovely and said the order had been mislaid, when it arrived it was well presented, wholesome and tasty, chips were delicious. Upon leaving the owner also apologised, saying it was his fault(it must be said his initial greeting was very friendly and helpful). Intend to return.

Went For A Meal Following The Re-opening On 2nd Ma

Went for a meal following the re-opening on 2nd May 2011. The new owners were very welcoming and the restaurant was reasonably full for a Thursday evening. The bar has a good range of cask beers and the menu is excellent with a good range of specials - the slow cooked belly pork was fantastic.

Over the past two years The Star has been blighted by several tenants installed by Enterprise Inns. The new owners are doing a great job to revive the fortunes of this long established rural pub and restaurant and desrve all the support they can get.
