The Angel Inn, Salem, Carmarthenshire

We visited The Angel at Salem as we heard that it had been refurbished and was under new management. We were not disappointed. The atmosphere was warm and cosy with two log fires lit. The staff could not have been friendlier and more helpful. The menu left us spoilt for choice and the food was fantastic. The prices were reasonable. We noticed that they allowed dogs in the bar and there was a blackboard advertising live jazz on Sunday Lunchtime. Will try that soon. We are also considering their excellent Xmas Day menu. I checked the website and was impressed with the type of menu offered. We booked for 11th September. What was offered on the menu bore no relation to the website. Service poor, no wine list offered, table set incorrectly and not clean. Food very sub-standard. Over priced and I would certainly not recommend this establishment. The staff were not particularly clean. The website should be removed. We were certainly conned and I wonder how many diners have had the same experience.

Ate here on a Saturday night for a birthday celebration. The service was non existant. As we arrived it was like we entered into a wake as the staff sat and gazed over at us without a word. The service was fragmented, no wine list offered and wrong menus handed to us. There were three staff and as many tables occupied. The waitress walked off halfway through a drinks order. I got the sense that the restaurant used to be popular and busy but this was no longer the case in my experience. The food I ordered was belly pork in a mustard sauce and when it arrived it was simply served with cabbage. The sauce was red and tasting strongly of tomato with no mustard present at all. Very strange indeed. The food was of average standard overall but severely let down by the service. Sadly, I would not return or suggest it to anyone.

Utter rubbish. Pooor food poorly cooked and poorly served. Went here for my 50th Birthday. Would have had better at a burger king, and saved 150m quid.

The Angel Inn in Salem has lots of awards which it definitely deserves. We got stunning food and service and also found a good wine list.
