We Have Been To This Pub Several Times And Have Ha

We have been to this pub several times and have had lovely experiences, however last night we had the worst meal out experience that we have ever had.

As an appetizer we had bread and olives - the bread had been cut before service and was dry on the air exposed sides and the waitress tried to remove the olives before we had finished.

Starters were ok. However, I ordered Comfit of duck and recieved and large pile of salad leaves with a few small bits of duck meat. In fact, when the waitress brought it to the table she asked who had ordered the duck salad!

Mains were appalling. My fish and chips were warm (not hot), batter soft and chips under cooked. My mum's pork belly was chewy, warm (not hot) and carrots under done. My husband's burger was huge but bland (again not overly hot) and chips under-done.

We sent them back and received food that was slightly better (carrots weren't crunchy and chips had a slight colour) but the batter was still soft. It also took them only 5 mins to re-cook 3 meals (hummmmm!!!!). We complained again and they agreed not to charge us for the mains (which we didn't really eat anyway!). We left without dessert and popped into Tescos on the way back to get a finest dessert - it was the best part of the evening!

I believe the pub had recently changed hands and if this is an example of what they do now then I really wouldn't recommend going. We will not be going there again.

I found this review very helpful because it is an accurate picture of all that's gone wrong with the Ragged Cot over the past year. I have written to the brewers who own the pub and had a reply from the present leaseholder. He seemed keen to take on board my own comments about the food, but nothing has changed so presumably he believes that everything is OK. It is a terrible shame.

Pretentious Menu That Tries To Behave Like A Gastr

Pretentious menu that tries to behave like a gastro pub but doesn't really hit the mark. Very expensive lunchtime menu which is leaves one feeling diappointed. No childrens menu so expected to pay for an adult meal which in todays economic climate is very shortsighted.

Very disappointed with our lunch and when complained to manager not really taken very seriously and in fact was very dismissive and argumentative.

We used to go here regularly a few years ago and it was superb, but since under the new ownership leaves a lot to be desired.

Beautifully Presented Inside And The Food Matches

Beautifully presented inside and the food matches up! They pub has retained much of the charm of the old building while the newer conservtory/restaurant provides a great dining space.

I loved the service and the menu, although not a huge selection, left me with quite a deliberation!

I will be back at the Ragged Cot and i may even have some of my family stay in their rooms next time they visit. It will give me some 'breathing space'!

Take a trip there, i dont think you will be disapointed!

The Ragged Cot Have A Very Nice Interior, Welcomin

The Ragged Cot have a very nice interior, welcoming staff and decent Sunday menu. Being family friendly, they could do with some kind of play equipment in the garden and some changing facilities (if they haven't got this in the disabled loo). Easy to find in nice surroundings. Generally a nice place and somewhere I would consider going back to subject to the bad points being put right.

I found this review not helpful because...

As a regular customer of the Ragged Cot, the last thing I want is for the place to be turned into a motorway service type facility catering to families wanting cheap fast food for fussy child eaters. Nor do I want the lovely garden defaced by garish play equipment. I'm glad the Cot does not pander to this type of customer.

The Ragged Cot Is A Little Gem In Minchinhampton A

The Ragged Cot is a little gem in Minchinhampton and I would recommned it to anyone. We were staying down the road in Box so the restaurant / gastro pub was 10 minutes way by car. You enter the eatery from the car park at the rear and can have a drink at the bar if you are early. The decor is contemporary and light floods in through the big windows in the dining area. The service was excellent and the food menu though not extensive offered enough choice to cause deliberation! I had a very good goats cheese starter followed by a perfectly cooked steak. The side dishes were equally tasty. As a lover of chocolate and mousse, I thought I would try the mousse cake for desert and although was nice, it didn't blow me away. The wine list was good and we were able to select a nice bottle. The prices are quite expensive for a country gastro pub / restaurant but I guess it is the Cotswolds... Apparently you can stay at the Ragged Cot Inn too but I did not get to see what the rooms are like. On the whole a good dining experience.
