Matsuba, Richmond

I walked into Matsuba, this small Japanese restaurant on a friday night without a booking. Despite being fully booked, after a bit of negotiation they managed to fit us in - and i am so pleased they did.We had edamame and a scallop dish to start. The edamame were warm and perfectly booked, not too soggy. We then had a sashimi platter which was nothing short of excellent. The fish was fresh, thickly cut and of melt-in-the-mouth quality. The maki rolls were beautifully done, and very tasty. So tasty in fact that we proceeded to order more when we really didn't need it - but it was too good to refuse. I will definitely be returning here... but might have to save it for a special occasion.

It's not cheap, but then good Japanese restaurants rarely are.
