If You Are Ever Thinking Of Eating At The Glasshau

If you are ever thinking of eating at The Glasshaus - please don't! My fianc and I ate there at the weekend, and it was the worst, and one of the most expensive meals, we've ever had! After waiting 30 minutes for our table, we were shown to our seats (with wobbly table) in the 'no smoking' section of the upper dining area. There were people smoking all around us - and unfortunately no other seats for us to change to. The very limited 'a la carte' menu is VERY expensive. We however hoped that we would get what we pay for, and really expected to sample some fantastic food. It took ages for the staff to serve us, and the when they did the service was not great. Bread rolls were served, but the butter came 15 minutes later. My fianc had to send his starter back - for £6 they offered him a 'salmon and langoustine' started that consisted mainly of shredded lettuce and a tiny pathetic piece of unhealthy looking salmon and one tired looking prawn. For our main courses (at £17.50 each!) we had chosen 'medium-rare' steak. It came, eventually, VERY well done - tough and dry. The only veg you get with this meal is 8 full shallots - ask yourself - how many shallots can one person eat in one meal? The deserts were OK to be honest, but really not worth the £6 each they charged for them. In total our bill came to £75. My fianc , not being happy with the food or the service, asked for a reduction in the bill - fair is fair after all - if they charge extortionate prices they've got to serve fabulous food right? Not according to the Owner/Manager, who just couldn't handle any constructive criticism of his service or food offerings. To say the owner got aggressive at our polite complaint would be a gross understatement. I'm really not joking when I tell you that the owner got so heated about the fact we were not happy about the food, he actually asked my fianc to 'step outside to sort it out'. Yeah, the owner looked like a thug, but we really didn't expect him to behave like that, in HIS establishment, in front of everyone eating and drinking there. A poor member of staff (who earlier told us that it's been said many times that the owner is a ********) had to hold the owner back and try and calm him down! Basically, the moral of the story is.. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY EATING IN THE GLASSHAUS! You won't enjoy your food and you're likely to be threatened or even assaulted by the management if you're not happy about something - is it really worth it? If you're planning on spending a lot of money on a nice meal, try somewhere reputable like Gamba or the City Merchant in Glasgow instead. I know we won't EVER be going back to the Glasshaus, and I hope that this post makes other people think twice about it too!

You've put me off for life - so that's one visitor that The Glasshaus in Airdrie won't be getting on my next visit North of the Border!
