Situated On Linthorpe Road, Central Middlesbrough
Situated on linthorpe road, central middlesbrough lies the jewel in middlesbroughs culinary crown. My family and i all enjoy great Punjabi style cooking and the delicious and deverse foods the Asian continant has to offer. Khans is a family run business and takes its name from the family tribal name which originates from a city called Peshwer in Pakistan.
My personal love affair with Asian food started as young child when my father bought me, beef madras, pilau rice and a keema nan for my bithday. I remember he bought himself a lamb dupiaza Phall and encouraged my brother to have a taste. It blew our Mikes head off, his face went bright red, he was rolling all over the floor, tears running down his face.
It is unwise to try a dish as hot as a phall if you have yet to experience it's explosive taste, i think my dad only done it for a joke and to confirm his superiority as Ken king of the curries.
I believe you need to acclamatize to Indian cusine, and start out with a milder dish like a Korma or a Rogan josh and gradually work your way up to a Balti dish or a Madras and only then are you ready for a Vindaloo, or a Phall, they don't come much hotter than this. It is boneless pieces of chicken or lamb cooked in spices, ginger and fresh ground chillies. A must have for those who find a Vindaloo "mild".
Lots of people including myself tend to eat really hot food as a way to impress other people and confirm there status as alpha male, as there pallet can handle anything that you can throw at it. Curries bring out the cave-man instinct in my family and i think that is good thing. We have curry nights once a fortnight and are always trying to out spice each other. Khans is often the chosen venue to stage our curry nights as it is close by and good value for money.
My yougest brother who is only 15 is already well on his way to claiming the king of the curries title which has been held by our father for 12 years as he is already eating king prawn Vindaloo's and Pathia's to which he claims are "mild". Im sure that when i was 15 i was only Bhuna and Kashmir Massala dishes. If his pallet can maintain this level of abuse im sure he will one day make a worthy successor to my fathers throne.
My father claims mankinds greatest invention is not the wheel but good quality toilet roll. If your in the middlesbrough area and enjoy a good currie at a good price then khans will not disappoint.
I like my curry's me, but usually only mild ones with loads of coconut in (Korma's).
