I've Eaten At The Thorne Tree In Woodlinken 3 Time
I've eaten at The Thorne Tree in Woodlinken 3 times in 12 months, and felt let down twice. On both occasions I ordered steak (they do rump, sirloin and fillet). I asked for medium-rare and got medium-well done each time. Steer clear of the home-cut chips too, they've been consistently limp and greasy, and a funny dark brown colour, as if boiled in dirty fat, rather than deep fried at high temperature.
The best meals here seem to be the pies, the steak. The kidney and ale pie is good, with light puff pastry and plenty of gravy, served with seasonal veg, but go for new potatoes rather than chips.
The scampi was nicely cooked, but again, ruined by a serving of limp chips and overcooked veg.
The deserts seemed basic - bought in cakes and ice creams, so the desert menu didn't appeal, so I didn't order from it.
There's better food for less money in the area.
