Poor Quality Food

Went for Sunday carvery, staff really friendly and prompt service. Food was out of the freezer. Mashed potatoes like concrete full of lumps, frozen parsnips deep fried, all other veg was frozen. No home cooked food ( maybe Yorkshire puddings might be?)

Can cook better at home using fresh produce for less than half the price. If you don’t mind paying over the top for plastic food then this is the place to go. If you want value for money and excellent food, this is definitely not the place to go.

It’s a real shame that beautiful quaint country pubs like this are being exploited by patrons that see pound signs before quality. ????????

Great Value

This was the first visit since the change of landlords and what a pleasant surprise. The reception was warm and friendly and very helpful.

The food and beer were of excellent quality and the service was great.

I hope that people will forget how this place used to be and give it another try, you will be pleased by the changes.

Just What A Good Pub Should Be

The Red Lion nestles in a quiet corner of the lovely Lincolnshire village of Newton just a mile from the busy A52 outside Grantham not far from Sleaford or the A1 at Colsterworth and the new landlord and landlady really know how to run a good pub the welcome was as warm as the roaring fire in bar . The food was really good and quite obviously freshly cooked, my haddock and chips were wonderful but I wish I’d had the burger, it looked scrummy. One of our party is a steak eater and said his was beautifully cooked and delicious in fact everyone was pleased with their food. I am always very suspicious of huge menus as I worry about bought in pre-prepared food but that is not the case here with a good but not overbearing selection and all freshly cooked. The prices are very reasonable too with a good steak and trimmings for around £16 and my huge haddock was just under £13 making it a great place for a regular meal out.

By the way there are baby changing facilities in the toilets.

In all a great place to meet and enjoy the atmosphere and good food, not a gastro pub or gastro pub prices just great food a warm welcome and reasonable enough to return again and again, just what a pub should be.

Food And Ale To Die For.

My wife and I visited this little jewel of a pub on Sat 12th Oct 2013 and what a treat. The hosts were very friendly and attentive, the cask ales were excellent , especially the St Austell Brewery offering of Trelawny. We then enjoyed a fabulous 3 course meal in very pleasant surroundings with a lovely atmosphere. The food was truly excellent, starting with the normally bland Tomato and Basil soup, which at this venue was very nice indeed. My main course of Beef and Ale pie with home made chunky chips and a fine mix of seasonal veg with gravy was exceptional, with the meat filling of the pie literally melting in the mouth. The menu was smallish but varied with the exception of their being too little vegetarian choice, although in fairness the hosts did say that they were in the process of changing the menu. Overall the inn provides everything you would wish for in a quintessentially traditional English ale house and is set in the heart of a very quiet and pleasant village just off the A52 a few miles south of Sleaford. An absolute pleasure and an experience which we cant wait to repeat!

Don't Drive Past

What a find! the owners have just taken over, but what excellent food, service and value for money. We were just returning from a holiday in Norfolk and follwed the makeshift signs. They made us feel at home immediately. I hope the locals realise what a gem they have in their midst.

Good Food, Good, Frinedly Service.

Our first visit coincided with the imminent arrival of a party of 24 for mid week lunch. The landlady spoke to the chef who agreed he could do us lunch quickly before the party arrived. The food was beautiful, and we could not fault the food or the service and the pub itself was lovely and located in a picturesqe stone built village. We hope to return to the Red Lion next time we are in the area.

Sunday Lunch

After quite a long journey we found the Red Lion a friend had bought a Groupon voucher for 4 and for the price she had paid we were a little worried about what we would receive. We duly arrived and found a very attractive bar area which at 1.15 pm was quite busy. After we had obtained our drinks we were told where our table was and duly went and sat down. After a short while we were told that we could go to the carvery a very pleasant surprise choice of 4 meats, 6 vegetables and all the usual trimmings for a Sunday lunch. We all enjoyed our meal each one having different meats. I had the lamb which was delicious. We left just enough for a sweet not a large selection as two had already sold out. The dining area was busy the whole time we were there and hopefully if a large percentage were using Groupon voucher they will return to the Red Lion. I wish the new owners every success with the business.
