The Tom Watts Bitter Was Well Kept And Highly Reco
The Tom Watts bitter was well kept and highly recommended. One member of our party enjoyed the meal: mushrooms followed by mixed grill. Chicken stuffed with ricotta was pleasant but arrived cold and had to be returned to the kitchen to reheat. The wine list was extremely limited though the one worth really drinking (the rhone) was very nice, but somewhat overpriced at £16.95.
Most of the party enjoyed the starter but the 'special', chicken goujons was less than pleasant - seemed synthetic and not freshly prepared. The lettuce accompaniment showed more imagination but certainly would not warrant a £6.95 price tag. The 'pink' venison from a local estate; for pink read grey. The cassis sauce was not so much an accompaniment as a pudding. Its cloying sweetness completely overpowered any taste that might have been left in the venison. The green beans with which it was served were a welcome oasis of freshness in an otherwise ill conceived dish.
A very pleasant pub but an incredibly disappointing meal.
