Fantastic Authentic Food
Our first visit to the Bengal Spice and we were surprised to see it very quiet on a late Friday evening, but had a fabulous meal, way more than we could eat with just poppodams 2 mains 1 bread 1 rice and a side. Dishes were unusual and exceptionally well flavoured. My other half has eaten in many Indian restaurants and rates this very highly and will definitely be back for more. The Salmon Masalla is unusual and very tasty, not overpowering, so you still taste the Salmon and loads of it.
Staff were very friendly and happy to discuss the dishes. It isn't the most modern of décor but fine and with good food, drink and company, we didn't pay much attention to the wallpaper.
Excellent food and very food value for money.

I Had The Misfortune Of Visiting The Bengal Spice
I had the misfortune of visiting the Bengal Spice in Norwich during a recent business trip.
The decor was dire, pine wood panels and dubious carpet and lighting. The staff were less than attentive, and quite unfriendly.
We were advised that they did not serve sheek kebabs for starters (unlike just about every other restaurant).
I ordered a chicken balti, to my shock, the chicken was not fresh, but the sliced processed type that is often served in takeaways on kebabs. They dish was devoid of any flavour explosion and mostly comprised of an abundance of cheap onions and tomatoes.
Value? I've eaten better for less in Leeds, Bradford, Birmingham, and Manchester
The world has moved on from the 70's, something that this place need to take note of.
One star because there is no option for zero.

Having Eaten At The Majority Of Indian Restaurants
Having eaten at the majority of Indian restaurants that Norwich has to offer, Bengal Spice is by far one of the best. The staff are always extremely friendly with prompt service. The food is awesome, my favourite dish is Hash-e-Hash, a delightful duck dish similar to a jalfrezi. Only the d cor prevents it from being 10/10

I Highly Recommend Bengal Spice Indian Restaurant
I highly recommend Bengal Spice Indian restaurant in Norwich.
I go to this restaurant every Saturday, in the late afternoon to avoid the crowds at 7 - 8pm. It's my favourite Indian restaurant in Norwich, and I like the service. The atmosphere is very cosy, and the food is tastier than in other Indian restaurants in the area. The price is something that attracts me the most. For a fair portion of any curry and rice, with 2 popadoms, breads, sides and drinks, we spend around £20.
At weekends it's a bit too crowded for me. They don't have large open spaces, so the guests are literally standing at my table in the queue.

Bengal Spice Had Good Service, Good Portions, Nice
Bengal Spice had good service, good portions, nice atmosphere and decor but the food was not so good. My fiance's Pasanda tasted like a pot of cream with vegetables stirred in to it. The chicken in my Madras was hard and our plain Nan was really oily and tasted cheesy.
For such a well presented restaurant, this was a disappointment. The waiters were well drilled and the general atmos was pleasant but the food was awful and not worth the money, there are much better Indian restaurants in Norwich than this one.
I think this reviewer has been rather harsh considering he only frequents the Bengal Spice a couple of times a year. If a dish is not to liking because it tastes differently to what you are normally served at other Indian's (they all taste the same) it seems unfair to criticise.

I Eat At Bengal Spice Weekly And Have Done For Nea
I eat at Bengal Spice weekly and have done for nearly 4 years, the menu could do with ringing the changes, but it's still a winning formula to provide well prepared high quality food, using the best ingredients (I know where all their supplies are sourced from, and its very good- no cutting corners here) and employing award winning chefs (other Indian restuarant frequently try to poach (!) the chefs, as they are highly experienced and creative). They have a good selection of wines and lagers (try a bottle of Bangla beer if you fancy a change from Kingfisher or Cobra) and one of their best dishes has got to be a prawn jalfrezi (ask for extra or fewer chillies, they're always happy to 'adapt' dishes)and a well stuffed peshwari naan. Friendly service in a low lit pleasant decor, this is THE Indian restaurant to eat at.
