The Whistling Duck, Hertford

One of the questions ask "How often do you eat here". I put "first time" as this is the truth. However I wanted to put "several times a month" it was that good, and would be the answer if I could afford to eat out that often!

I had the pleasurable company of my grandparents on this visit who a notoriously hard to please when it comes to new restaurants but decided it was time to venture beyond the Knebworth/Stevanage area where they are from and where we usually dine out. We were greeted by a lovely waitress who seated us in a lovely spot with a view of the pianist playing onobtrusively in the background. The food was spot on (three fillet steaks cooked perfectly according to our varying taste preferances) as were the desserts. I honestly could not eat another bite upon leaving even though my mind was urging me to prolong the experience. Points of not include the lovely warm interior, the smiley and friendly service by two staff members and the food. I couldn't help looking over my shoulder at other diner's meals and they all looked equally good.

I highly recommend this restaurant to those who have not been before, a little off the beaten track and outside the main town but easy to find with a sat-nav.

Whilst the food could not be faulted,the service was friendly but extremely slow,and a little more training would not go amiss on table service,ie clearing of empty glasses and plates.However I will return to try again

Great food, if not a little expensive. As with most restaurants, you get what you pay for though so the prices can be forgiven. The waiting staff seem eager to please. Had a quick peek through the glass doors at the back and there is a spacious decking area, presumably for alfresco dining in the summer next to the river, so we will definately be returning to try that in a couple months.

A friend and I visited the restaurant yesterday evening and throughly enjoyed ourselves, the food was superb with a wide range of choices to pick from, the waiting staff were very friendly and the location is lovely, will definately be returning soon.
