Bua Thai, St Albans

Although we had booked a table for 4, instead of a welcoming smile, we were greeted with a look of surprise and there was a mad dash as a couple of waitresses made a table ready. Not sure what that was about as we didn't mind waiting a couple of minutes but thereafter service was smiling and on time.

The food was adequate but slightly too sweet for my liking. The Tom Yum, my acid test, was nice but not quite like in Thailand - none-the-less, it was the nearest of any restaurant in St. Albans. Red curry duck is recommended. Portions were very generous and we overestimated the amount that we could eat.

Atmosphere was certainly pleasing; the restaurant was busy, smaller groups all chatting in a friendly way. Waitresses buzzed around efficiently.

Overall, Bua Thai is as good as any Thai restaurant in St. Albans since the wonderful Yim Thai closed down. Certainly the food is yards better than over-anglicised Thai Square. Not outstanding but I have no doubt we will go back some time.

I love Thai Bua they always remember us. Good portions, great sticky rice and a nice touch is fruit at the end of meal.

Two seated table can feel slightly small by the time you've received all your food. Recently they have improved the interior and they now have a bar licence.
