The Trinity Foot Public House: After A Day Vi

The Trinity Foot Public House:

After a day visiting the lovely sites of Ely Cathedral, Cromwell museum etc, we were tired and arrived at our Travelodge which was excellent and only cost £26 for a big family room when booked in advance. As it was on the A14 (a very busy dual carriageway) the only eating place on this side of the carriageway was Little Chef and the pub which was about a five minute walk along the carriageway was called the Trinity Foot If you are travelling South on the A14 to Cambridge, take the exit As you

come off the slip road, drive past the Trinity Foot Public House and I don't recommend that you stop. We arrived there and sat in a glass area, ordered drinks and asked if there was food being served, considering it was a busy day of a bank holiday, it was very quiet at approx 6:30pm but was told that food was served until 8pm. By the time I was joined by my husband, I noticed the very unclean surroundings, the tables were greasy and the whole place looked as though it needed a good clean. We were tired and really didn't want to go finding anywhere else that evening, so persevered. The somewhat small choice on the menu was our first disapointment, followed by the Sunday lunch being sold out, we ordered the lamb, and that was not available, so my husband chose the gammon, which I also chose. When the gammon arrived it was white fat on the outside edge and water all over the plate, it had obviously been either put in a pan of hot water and microwaved or something else I just couldn't imagine, there was a bit of limp lettuce and nothing else but a few fries and peas that must have been warmed up more than twice as they were dry and tastless. The meat hadn't been cooked right and while eating in I was wondering if it might make us ill later. It was bland and unappetising to say the least. We ordered a bottle of merlot wine from the list, and it was corked, being typically british we just grin and bear it, the bottom of the glass had a thick sediment in it, the bottle had obviously been left on the shelf for a long time. When we saw the wine, we asked for a jug of water, at least that took away the taste of the wine and the taste of raw gammon fat from our mouth. I thought that at least they couldn't ruin a pudding, and chose their apple crumble with fresh whipped cream, yummy! Oh dear, when it arrived, you could smell the cream was off, I was so fed up that I gave it back and told them so that they knew it was off. I was sent another one with cream on and the same cream had been served with it, I walked over to the girl sitting at the stool opposite and asked her to smell it, she agreed with me that the cream was off. This evenings event cost us about £9.50 each for the main course, £11.50 for the wine, dinks, and two puddings that were sent back. We weren't offered out money back. What an awful evening for the princely sum of over £40. We walked out in disgust. Who ever owns this pub has a couple of teenagers preparing food, and has no interest in the hygiene or reputation of the Trinity Foot. Needless to say, we will never go there again, we will go to McDonalds in preference to eating in a public house in the UK in future. Why do we get it so wrong in UK eating estabishments, I have eaten in places all over the world, and this has to be the worst so far.
