The Plough Is Located In Green End, Fen Ditton, Ca

The Plough is located in Green End, Fen Ditton, Cambridge. In our party were 4 adults and 2 children. We have been to The Plough quite a lot when visiting relatives and have always had lovely meals there, but I think that it has been taken over by new management. We went on a Thursday (Aug 2006) about 1:30 pm for lunch, it was very quiet. No problem in finding a table, so we proceeded to choose our meals. The menu had something for everyone and were very reasonably priced. Unfortunately unlike previous visits, there was no printed kids menu, this was located on a small blackboard on the bar top (poor). The kids meals were priced at £4.50, this included a small soft drink and vanilla ice-cream with chocolate or strawberry sauce.

Items on the regular menu ranged from baguettes/jacket potatoes with various fillings/fish dishes/traditional English fare/scampi/steaks - a very good choice. Main courses ranged from £3.95 upwards with the average being £6.99. Excellent menu choices. Our party chose bacon cheeseburgers, hot baguette with sirloin steak & crispy onions, scampi & chips and jacket potatoes with prawn and seafood sauce. The burgers were priced at £6.99 and were excellent value for money and the burger looked homemade - it came with battered onion rings, chips, & coleslaw (10/10). The scampi & chips came with peas (a choice of garden or mushy) but presentation was poor, priced approx. £7.99 (7/10). The hot rustic baguette with sirloin steak & crispy onions priced I think at £5.95 was poor. It was cold and tasteless (4/10). The jacket potatoes had a small salad garnish (poor) and coleslaw. The jackets looked 'off' (black), very small filling and did not taste very nice, hence not worth the £4.50. The coleslaw was homemade and excellent. The desserts were great, no complaints there and were on average £3.95. Service was very poor and slow, given that the place was not busy. The waitresses were busy talking rather than clearing tables and serving food. Would I eat there again? I'm afraid there are much better places and this episode has put me off ever going there again.
