I Bought This Game As I Wanted A Multi Player Game

I bought this game as I wanted a multi player game as I purchased the core system, but to my disappointment you can only play multi player either through Xbox Live and System Link up. I have played previous versions of Quake on PS2 and Dreamcast and you can play split screen but why not on 360?

The single player option is very good and keeps you engrossed for a while but it's really a multi player game. The graphics and sound (through 5.1) is just amazing and me jump once or twice. No only the once but I wasn't scared!

I would recommend this game if you are on Xbox Live as this how the game should be played.

Happy fragging.

Excellent Game. One Of Those Games You Can Pick Up

Excellent game. One of those games you can pick up for a few minutes and play. Yes its not greatly different from the PC but with the limited availability of games on the xbox360 its really a must.

And I don't see how anyone can slate a game where you get strapped down and your arms and legs chopped off with a buzz saw while still being able to look around. Fantastic.

Graphics are great to a really enjoyable game.

First Impressions Of Quake 4, It's A Game You Can

First impressions of Quake 4, it's a game you can pick up on the PC for around £15, so for £50 you'd expect something a lot more than a standard port.

Unfortuantly that's pretty much what Quake 4 on the 360 is...

Firstly, although the visuals have improved, they still run on the Doom3 engine, so if you've played Doom3 you'll feel a weird sense of deja-vu because the interior sections look, and feel the same, however unlike Doom3 you're not alone. Most of the time you'll be wandering around with your squad but at times you will be alone, and more than likely it'll be dark so it creates a good atmosphere and a sense of tension. And outside it maintains a good atmosphere with mercs running around everywhere, huge cannons firing in the distance and having your dropship land above you is simply draw-dropping. Think Call of Duty 500 years into the future and you're kinda there.

The gameplay isn't too bad at all, the FPS controls work well, they're not too twitchy and well laid-out, at any rate it's better than Perfect Dark 0. The action is often fast and you've got to be on your toes, and someway into the story the Strogg (the goons you'll be blasting the entire game) manage to capture you and after a fairly gruesome scene you'll have the upgraded abilities of your enemy, and the game picks up the pace a fair bit after that.

However it's not all good, the game does start to get repetive even with all the (admittedly good) vehicle sections to break it up, and although it's a decent length you'll still come away wanting more, and to play mutliplayer you'll need Live or System Link, there's no split-screen support which is almost criminal, Quake has always been about the mutliplayer and this effectively kills it off.

However, almost to redeem it, the makers ID Interactive have thrown in Quake 2 as a bonus disk, arguably the best Quake game ever made and one of the best on the N64, but, it was good because of it's fast, fun mutliplayer... and that's now gone. There's no excuse for it, with 4 player split-screen Quake 4 would have been killer, but without it the game lacks lasting appeal unless you have Live.

But then you're still paying £50 for a game you can get for £15...

Overall I'd recommend this hugely if you have Live, but if you don't have Live you'll need to be a pretty solid FPS fan, but even then you could come away disappointed.

I agree with this review because... pretty much everything he said summed up my opinion of the game as well, especially the part about Quake 2 for N64 being a superior product. Saves me writing a similar review.

This review is not particularly informative. What exactly was wrong with Quake 4?
