Over All Getaway Was Great. Addicting, Entertainin
Over all Getaway was great. Addicting, entertaining and completely awesome. The shooting aspects were a blast though not to be outdone by fast paced and dangerous driving sequences. I loved it!! .. definately worth the money. The game play is there, the realism is there the atmosphere is there .. get it!

The Getaway Is Possibly The Greatest Game Out For
The Getaway is possibly the greatest game out for the PS2. It has great graphics, a good storyline and great missions. Compared to most games the Getaway has actually got a storyline that works. The game is really realistic, though this is what many people despise about the game because they find it too hard. Another thing people complain about is that free roam mode needs unlocking. Well I think this is slightly irritating myself. A good point is that you play as two characters, an x-bank robber and an undercover cop which have two separate storylines that revolves around each other. Another problem that effected its sales was that everyone was comparing it to GTA vice city which is another great game but you do have to remember that Rockstar Games have been making GTA's for ages so its bound to be better since this is Team Soho's first game of this kind. I don't think you should compare them though and you should look at Getaway as the great game it is. I think you should definetly buy it and I can't wait for the sequel.

What A Wasted Opportunity ;( Apparently This Game
What a wasted opportunity ;( Apparently this game was supposed to be released this time last year but was held back until now, why is anyones guess. The game looks great and to have the genuine London Streets & Uk cars is just awesome but im afraid thats the good points over with. .........................The Control of the cars is terrible, they are slow, skittish and you never feel fully in control. When you go into a corner you need to slow down quite alot or the car slides all over the place (unless you want it too)...... Now we come to the character control :( how did this get past the beta testing stage? the main character is quite hard a to control, there is no side-step (a seriously bad omission) and although there is an auto aim it doesn't always lock on to a living target quick enough (it does still lock onto dead targets for some strange reason while u are being shot to hell by the living bad guys)..You can only control your character with the analogue stick, which makes the whole control method such a pain. Why they couldnt let you use the D pad i really dont know as none of these buttons are used......Another bad point is reloading, as it seems to reload when it feels like it and if that isnt bad enough he fires when he feels like it (while you are being shot to hell by bad guys again) ;( Infuriatingly No matter how quick you are you will find the bad guys can shoot you before you get chance to aim and fire and that really does my head in. I have tried all the methods like back to the wall, step round and fire but your man just doesnt react quickly enough..... Despite all the bad points it is still addictive and although you may pull all of your hair out you will still try and persevere with it. I think it is because it is trying to be a UK GTA3 and you cant resist tearing through the streets of london in a MK1 Toyota MK2 ;) ........If the contol method was alot better it would be a 10/10 but im sure that even though im a GTA3 (Now Vice City ;) expert i will only manage to get a 1/4 way through this game before it is sold on.....I would seriously rent this before buying as you may find your controller imbedded in your TV ;)....

I agree with the point about the cars seeming slower than they should do. a merc s class 6.0 should have rapid acceleration and should make a lot of noise but it does not appear to be much quicker than an old saab.
I agree wholeheartedly with the "flawed" viewpoint. Terrible control (will you grab the guy, or do a dive roll? You just never know.) Lock-on reeks, reload and gun options are a joke, scripted and repeated level design and enemy patterns sucked, hurried chase levels leave no time to "enjoy" London. Cars with erratic cornering, no variety in handling, wicked-bad traffic popup, and no in-car view option for the realism and "feel" of "1st person" driving. I could go on with the bad with only a little good to follow, but you get the picture. Rent it with caution. Think GTA3/Medal Gear Solid/Max Payne. Now combine them, give it the control scheme of Resident Evil underwater on crack, and voila, The Getaway is born. Maybe 7 out of 10 is your thing. Not me, I played half the game, and returned the rental early.
You are obviously easily pleased and have obviously never driven (in real life) any of the cars featured in Getaway (which all just about drive the same except some are slower or faster)
When i said GTA clone i didn't mean that the makers of Getaway copied any aspects of GTA but maybe it would have been a much better game if they did.
This game is enyoyable short term but very flawed but if people enjoy it then thats all good but like i have said before; rent before you buy.

Firstly, I wanna know how can it be a clone of GTA if it has been in production for 2 years, SCEE would not have changed the game to copy GTA if they have been making it for 2 years. There is absolutley nothing wrong with the handling in the cars it is suppose to feel real not like the dodgey GTA series(it easy to tell you are a annoying fan of GTA). Does it really matter that some every day reviewrs gave it 7/10 or something, I can name hunderds of games that were hated by magazines but were great and loved heaps of people
Have you read any reviews of this game apart from THE Official Playstation 2 magazine? (which surprise surprise, gave this dross of a game 9/10)
If you had read any other magazines you would have found that this game had mediocre reviews and the only reason it didnt get below 70% is because of the link to the uk (im sure this wouldn't even be released Worldwide as it is such a poor game)
As most games magazines have pointed out the main let down is the very very very slow reload (yes i do know about the reload do you think im stupid?)and in my opinion that is one of the reasons this will NEVER be classed as a classic game.
Other annoying points is the terrible car/s handling and other car/s AI and the fact that when shot it takes what seems like hours to get out of the way of being shot to pieces (slow reload isnt much help)
I could go on and on about how flawed this game is but you really have to play it to know how bad it is. Hopefully someone will use the engine, tweak it and turn it into an enjoyable game but until then rent this game DON'T buy it.
A last point made by Rowley was "Let's hope the next decent game you buy you will appreciated it for what it is"
So WHAT IS there to appreciate about this game? How about the fact that it cost £10 million pounds to make and took 2 years of digital photography and programming to be what is basically a very poor GTA clone? (poss explains why the Official Playstation 2 magazine gave it 9/10)
