Unreal 2: The Awakening

Unreal 2: The Awakening, as most reviewers have pointed out, is something of a graphical triumph. It's not up to the standard of Doom 3 (what is?), but it runs really smoothly and the textures are grittier than a picnic on Blackpool beach.

The thing is, even with all the resplendant eye candy and rather good central hub (your spaceship), Unreal 2 is a pretty boring affair. The enemies have the intelligence of a slug and the weapons are just plain boring.

The pointer on the menu screens is quite nice though - especially the way it opens up and then closes when you move it - it looks a bit like an energy sword from Halo 2. Alas, when a game's most interesting feature is the menu pointer, you know something is missing along the line. Unreal 2: looks good, plays dull.

Undoubtedly the best looking shooter on any platform, Unreal2 also suffers from the same faults as it's predecessor: paper thin gameplay, lack of imagination, stupid enemies and even more stupid end of level bosses. The game is also very short (10-15 hours I'd guess) with zero replay value and no multiplayer either. If ever there were a game engine demo being passed off as a game, this is it. There are a dozen better FPSs on the shelves, avoid this one.

This game is just pure action adventure! I think this game RULES! This game almost matches with Halo(X-box,PC) Halo has stupid monsters(Unreal 2 the same)excellant guns(same!)good story lines(same!) fast action(SAME!).
