Mass Effect 2 builds upon the original Mass Effect, combining some of the original characters with a set of new ones. The sequel can be played without having played Mass Effect, but for the richest experience it is beneficial to import a saved game from Mass Effect - decisions taken in the original affect the way the story in Mass Effect 2 plays out. If you haven't got a saved game, they can be downloaded for the PC from http://www.masseffectsaves.com/. Once again, the game offers considerable replay value since it is possible to play Commander Shepherd as both male or female, as paragon or renegade and as each of six different classes with different skills requiring different combat strategies. As in the original, it is necessary to build up a team and each companion has their own "loyalty" quest to complete. Overall, an excellent game. Bring on Mass Effect 3.
