Star Wars: Rogue Squadron Is The First In A Series

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is the first in a series of flying games that in my opinion is one of the best games in the Star Wars franchise. The games do tend to vary from good to bad quite drastically but SW:RQ is one of the better games to be made.

The missions follow Luke Skywalker through a series of planets and objectives with the titular squadron to defeat the Empire. The missions are varied and the locations are beautifully crafted. A lot of love has been put into making this game. You'll fall in love with some of the locations and want to visit them yourself.

The music is Star Wars standard, which is an up at all points. Each level has a different theme that follows the Star Wars rules on music and excels exquisitely. There is nothing like listening to these tunes while shooting down Tie Bombers that are trying to destroy a train. Nothing quite like it.

The gameplay is where things go a bit floppy. You do enjoy yourself and it is a fun game. That is, until you get shot down. Again. And again. And again. You get the idea. There is a steep difficulty curve and the N64 controller isn't up for the challenge. It tries to work but it fails. But the strange thing is, you still enjoy it. It makes you want to try again and defeat it. To prove you can master the N64 controller in an X-Wing. It makes you want to come back. That is video games magic and every game should have it.

So if you see Rogue Squadrom for the N64 in a shop, why not get it? It's a great game and more than worth your time.

Is it suitable for my seven year old as he already loves the Star Wars Lego games?
