Her husband took care of everything like paying the bills so when he passed away, widow Emily Jones, besides grieving, fails to adapt. Instead of getting better, things turns worse for helpless Emily who plays rockabilly at the Smithville Baptist Church and shoots a hole in her roof when she thought an intruder was inside her home.

Her cousin Delta Jordan has issues of her own, especially with relationships with men, but knows Emily needs her, at least for now. Besides the blood connection between them, the two females are best friends so Delta, a travel writer, plans to help Emily adjust. She persuades Emily to accompany her on a business trip to Italy. There Emily begins to live again, this time independently, and Delta begins to believe that love does not mean abandonment as her dad did to her and the rest of her family and her two knucklehead ex-spouses did to her personally.

LATE BLOOMERS is a delightful character study starring two hurting female cousins who find solace with initially one another and then others. Emily helps Delta overcome her male phobia while Delta helps Emily overcome her loneliness. Readers will root for these two Americans who find life worth living while in Tuscany.
