The anonymous letter she received shakes soap opera writer Brooke Ashby to her core. The unsigned note claims she is adopted. Though wanting to write it off as a sick joke, she asks her friend, private investigator Pepper Rossi to make an inquiry. Pepper affirms the note is true and that she has a twin sister, Cameron McKenzie, living on a large horse ranch near San Diego, but her engaged sibling has been missing for about five weeks.

Needing to meet her twin, and praying that Cameron is all right, Brooke decides to pretend to be her sibling and claim amnesia. At the ranch she meets hunk Sloan Campbell, whom she finds quite attractive, but soon finds someone wants her dead, as accidents occur to her that makes her believe Cameron is safe but in hiding. Brooke's biggest fear is that Sloan, whom she is falling love with, is the culprit.

The latest "It was a dark and sexy night" romantic suspense thriller is a tale filled with several mysteries that brave Brooke needs to solve, including whether to trust her heart and consequently Sloan. Readers will enjoy this tense tale filled with irony, as the heroine thinks how much "real" life is stranger than fiction, as her day job is writing for the soap Secrets and having a separated twins' scenario would be a normal event. Summing up, this is a winner for sub-genre readers.
