Good Story But Lacks Matuarity Of A Seasoned Writer

The story of the novel is about Piya who narrates his love story to a friend during a night out. He starts off from the first time he saw the girl of her dreams till the time he vows never to see her again.

This is the crux of the story and what the readers might look for. Piyush Naik tries to give a love story with a hint of humour in it. He has not used the usual college romance and decided to stick to familiarity that is school life. In school he has chosen the most dreaded year and that is tenth boards. As before that you have never given boards, and parents and teachers do nothing to abate that fear.

You are left with half cooked stories of dread and relief. The same is true for Piya and his friends. He is an average guy but somehow the girls are crazy for him and he has his own crazy love story. He falls in love on the first day of tuitions with the Don’s daughter. In his defence, he didn’t know who she was or more specifically who her father was.

Story takes off from there. He is desperate to ask her out and so are others in class. In all this chaos and drama, he finds friends as well as his love. The story is predictable at times and childish at other times.

This works for the novel as Piyush Naik was in school when he wrote this book and it seems autobiographical in nature. There are characters which you can relate to and there are some which are just absurd. He has tried his best to write a book that will appeal to the people in his age group but has failed to provide universality to the book.

The positive aspect of the book was that it was refreshing; there was no same old college romance or any race to hook up. The novel was clean with very rare use of vulgar words. He managed to bring humour in situations and the sentiment of love that each one of us feels during our first crush/love was well written.

The negatives were that the book was too simple and too many characters. The editing of the book could have been better. Although the novel’s title is Oops! I feel in for Don’s Daughter, there was any presence of the Don. It lacked the certain thrill that comes with the love stories of an unattainable girl or a boy.

Piyush Naik do manages to give readers an okay book, which could have been better with more from the Don and less from the teenagers. Oops! I fell in for Don’s daughter, in short, is for die-hard romance fans and those who like teenage love stories.
