Linda James, The Invisible Piper

Linda James's account of the dramatic ways in which the second world war affected the lives of those caught up it cannot fail to move the reader.

Her research is, in a word, immaculate, as those old enough to have lived through these times will confirm.

Her real gift, however, is in her sensitive exploration of the developing relationships, attitudes, prejudices and values which result from being confronted with the challenges which deprivation and suffering bring.

The Author somehow manages to persuade us that the self awareness which follows, often unwanted, experiences can make us into better human beings.

It is,indeed, a remarkabe achievement and a remarkable book.
